What does it mean to sponsor a child?
Heart For Uganda child sponsorship creates a unique experience by building a one-to-one relationship with an orphaned or extremely vulnerable child in Uganda Africa. By sponsoring a child, you provide much needed financial assistance to bring joy, give hope and meet a community goal to restore the life of a child.

What is sponsorship?
As a sponsor, you will be matched with a child in Kyenjojo, Uganda. Relationships will be built between the sponsor, the sponsored child, the parent/guardian, Heart For Uganda and God's Care Ministries Teams and the community. Each person in this relationship improves the life of the others by sharing resources, hope and experiences to overcome the challenges of poverty. Your monthly contributions will provide a nutritious diet, educational opportunities (school fees, uniforms, scholastic materials and any necessary tutoring services), healthcare, clothing, and Bible training. In addition, your monetary gifts will also support vital development in the community where the sponsored child lives.
What is expected of me as a sponsor?
Prayer: The most important thing you can do for your sponsored child is to pray for him or her. Put his or her picture in a place where you will see it often as a reminder to pray God's blessings for your child.
Your monthly gift: Heart For Uganda depends on your financial commitment. Through your monthly gift, the Heart For Uganda team in the United States and the God's Care Ministries Team in Uganda can implement the child sponsorship program. We do not underestimate the significant role that each one of you has in God's ministry for the children. The monthly amount to sponsor a child is $30. If you desire, you may pay semi-annually or annually.
Write: You have the opportunity to personally minister to your sponsored child through letters. If needed, your letters will be translated from English to Lutooro by the sponsorship team. Most of the schools teach the children the English language; however, most of the children have difficulty speaking and understanding English. Let your child know they are valued and someone far away is thinking of them and praying for them. Please send any correspondence to the Child Sponsorship Program at the address listed below or if you prefer you may send correspondence by e-mail to the e-mail address listed below. It will then be forwarded to the child in Uganda.

Additional opportunities for the sponsor and sponsored child
Personal information: Sponsors are encouraged to share some personal and family information with the sponsored child. This will help a relationship between the sponsor and the sponsored child develop and grow. A sponsor information form is included in this packet.
Special occasions: Sponsors have the opportunity to contribute additional money for the sponsored child to celebrate his or her birthday and/or any major holidays such as Christmas and Easter. You will able to contribute a minimum amount of ten dollars or more if you wish on these special occasions.
Special circumstances: Sponsors may send or give special gifts to his or her sponsored child. If you wish to send money in addition to the monthly contribution, it will be placed in a sponsorship account and distributed where the sponsorship team feels it is most needed or most beneficial for the child.
Visitation of a sponsored child: Sponsors will be permitted to visit his or her child in Uganda. These visits will be arranged by the Ugandan sponsorship team. All travelling expenses will be the responsibility of the sponsor.

The needs of a sponsored child
Spiritual: Bible clubs headed by the Ugandan sponsorship team will meet once per month to teach the sponsored child Biblical principles. Every child will have the opportunity to hear God's Word and to know Jesus.
Educational: In Uganda, a child is not permitted to go to school unless he or she has money to pay for school uniforms, school supplies, and in some situations-especially in high schools-school fees. Paying for school fees, supplies and uniforms will demonstrate God's love to the child and the caregiver. Your support will provide a future and a chance for a child to build a dream. A sponsored child must attend school on a consistent basis. The Ugandan sponsorship team will be responsible to meet with school personnel to ensure school attendance.
Health: The Ugandan sponsorship team will be able to identify and address health issues of a sponsored child. Children die every day of treatable illnesses such as malaria, diarrhea, and respiratory infections. Worms are another medical issue that is easily treated with medication. Your support will provide much needed treatment and medication.
Emotional: Home visitation will be conducted every 2-4 weeks by the Ugandan sponsorship team to ensure child and parent/guardian accountability and assess the overall situation of the children enrolled in the sponsorship program. The love and support God desires for the sponsored child and the parent/guardian will be reflected in the visitation time.
Psalm 9:18 "But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish."
