Birth of
the Project
Alissa Cooper has
had the dream of establishing an orphanage and school in Africa since she was
nine years old. After returning
from a summer trip to Uganda, Africa in the summer of 2007, Alissa Cooper was compelled to make this dream a reality and resigned from her position
as a second grade teacher at Clarion-Limestone. Her heart was deeply touched by the plight of the orphans in
this country. Plagued by disease, political unrest, famine, economic hardship,
and the AIDS pandemic, many of the Ugandan children are left to die alone. Alissa could not erase
their faces from her heart and has firmly decided to devote her life to
changing the future of these orphans. Alissa realizes that if no one comes to rescue
the future leaders of this nation, the future of Uganda will also die. Alissa plans to establish a children’s village for the
abandoned children of Uganda. This
village will include children homes (housing 8-10 children and a widow), school
facilities-both educational and vocational, a library, and medical facilities. Alissa hopes
to create opportunities to unite the American community in making a difference
in the lives of Ugandan orphans.
